Tiago Martins

I became a collaborator at the Interactive Multimedia Group shortly before graduating in Computer Science at the FCT-UNL. My work at the IMG includes the InStory Client Programme v2 and the prototype for the PhotoNav Client Programme.

Currently I am working on the InStory project (focusing on the PDA client programme) and also on my PhD on Interaction in Ubiquitous Games at the Kunstuniversität Linz (Austria).

Interests

My professional interests include:

  • Ubiquitous/Pervasive Games, as a promising next generation of gaming that brings out the best aspects of play;
  • Human-Computer Interaction, particularly concerning gaming interfaces, ranging anywhere from typical game controllers and the Wii (I am the happy owner of one) to tangibles, wearables and the use of real spaces and objects;
  • Game Design, as new models are needed for games to break out of the screen and find new interesting “magical circles of play”;
  • Interactive Narratives, particularly in their usage in Pervasive Games to provide a less abstract and more immersive experience for the player.

My personal interests include videogames, movies, music, role-play, fantasy and sci-fi (sounding like a real nerd here), traveling and every other thing that comes along.
